This invasive species is Cogongrass.  It is very aggressive, spreads rapidly, and chokes out all other vegetation and wildlife. The photo shows the cogongrass in bloom.  Chemical eradication is the best weapon to oppose this invader.

Glyphosate is a common herbicide used to eliminate this weed.
